Tomorrow night I’m going to party like this!

I love this time of the year. The last few days of 2014, when you get to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. To me the beginning of a new year is almost like turning a page or maybe better: starting a new book. Excitement and motivation of dreams and goals that you can accomplish. The promise to yourself that THIS year is going to be your year.

So what dreams and ideals do you have for this year? What do you want to accomplish?
I know, I know – you probably don’t even make New Year’s resolutions anymore right? They say that  around Jan 22nd most people have broken all those resolutions, so what’s the point?

Pilates with Purpose Holiday Event

Ladies, this was our most fun Pilates with Purpose event yet! Kristen and I had such a blast with you. We had just about 40 people at Shag on Sunday December 7th, and everyone brought their Sunday best energy. Shag was the perfect space for our special holiday event, with it’s big beautiful windows and loft-like feel which almost gave you the hip yet chic feeling of being in New York City’s West Village.

Raffle tickets sold like hot cakes and bids on silent auction items grew and grew, while the ladies mingled with mimosas and hors d’oeuvres and made new connections.
In a little over 2 hours, we raised $1600 for HAIRraising for Boston Children’s Hospital!

We want to thank everyone who helped out and came out to make this event special and a huge success.

And then Tony Robbins said…

Morning,

First off I am super excited to announce that registration for my 2015 Pilates Pamper workshop is now open. You can register today. And even better news: when you invite friends to join you, you’ll save money! So be sure to grab a girlfriend for this wonderful experience.

I recently watched Marie Forleo’s, a best-selling American author, web TV host, and trainer in personal development, interview with Tony Robbins, American life coach and self-help author.

In the interview Marie’s asks Tony Robbins: “What do you do every day? How do you keep yourself at this high level of service?”  Tony mentions a few things, including something he calls “Priming”. This grabbed my attention. He does this for at least 10 minutes EVERY morning. This habit really resonated with me and so I have decided to implement it into my own life.

Follow these action steps to implement a similar routine to help you start your day off right:

  1. Let’s take Tony’s advice and start with just 10min. And before you go – “I don’t have 10minutes.” – here’s more wise words from Tony: “If you don’t have 10minutes, you don’t have a life.”  So just set your alarm 10 minutes earlier and let’s go!

 

  1. Ok so now you’re up 10 minutes early, what now? You can mimic Tony’s ritual: take a couple of minutes to just bring awareness to your breath, then 3ish more minutes to be grateful for 3 things in your life and the rest of the 10 to send love and healing to people in your life. (I am combining the grateful and healing portion and taking the last 3ish minutes to reconnect with my purpose/goals.)

 

  1. If Tony’s ritual is a little too much for you, just start with 10 minutes of meditation. Here’s a quick 10 minutes guided meditation. Why? It is a simple way to get your mind to focus, reconnect and help you to have a meaningful day.

Still a little skeptical? I can appreciate than, I mean heck, here I am: “the expert” – telling you that I am only now implementing this morning ritual? How do I even know this will work? Here’s how, what Tony is essentially practicing is “awareness”. And the one thing I can tell you for a fact is that awareness is the most important ingredient in creating change. I have personally experienced this and have seen it time and time again with my clients.

Come up with a practice that works best for you. Remember this is not a set in stone ritual, you can tailor it to fit your needs. Think about a few things that help you relax and focus? How can you use that to formulate a morning routine for yourself?

Out with the old, in with the new.

A couple of weeks ago, I had all sorts of brilliant ideas I wanted to implement before the new year. I very quickly realized I was biting off more than I could chew, that I was a little too late for that.

Instead of pushing the issue and not enjoying the prospect of those new ideas, I decided to take my foot off the accelerator. I figured it would be way better for my business to use this last month to reflect and plan for 2015. I want to set myself up for a successful year and really appreciate all the wonderful things that happened in 2014.

Does that scenario resonate with you? Would you like to do the same? Here’s my little secret recipe to make the most of the coming new year.

1. Log off and connect. If you follow me on social media, you might already have noticed that things are a little more silent on my feed. Disconnecting from all the social platforms helps you to be more present and connect with what’s happening right now.

2. Calm minds are more creative. Creativity happens when you’re not pushing it. Ever noticed how you have the most brilliant plan or solution when you’re going for a run, taking a shower, or while considering a totally unrelated topic? Your subconscious mind is always working for you, and it will come up with the perfect solution for you. You have to trust.

3. Do more of what works and forget what doesn’t. OK, now that your mind is calmer and clearer, start thinking of what worked really well for you this year. How can you build on it for the next one? What didn’t work? Leave it and come up with a new plan.

4. Focus on your new dreams and goals for 2015. What steps do you need to take to put them in action?

December can feel like a whirlwind, and with so many obligations, it’s easy to neglect yourself. Remember to be a little selfish and take time for yourself. Your success depends on it, and when you diminish yourself, you’re also cheating your loved ones by giving them a watered-down version of you.

Just do it already, OK?

And here we are with only one month left till 2014. Have you started reflecting and planning for 2015? Perhaps you have so many things you hope to accomplish in the new year that you’re feeling a little overwhelmed. You don’t even know where to begin to accomplish them.

 

Taking action can be one of the most daunting tasks. Coming up with plans and goals is so easy. Implementing them – well, that’s a whole different game.

At my Pilates Pamper workshops we get down and dirty with setting goals and how to accomplish them. It’s great to sit in a safe environment, surrounded by like-minded and supportive individuals with the same fears. You really get to focus on yourself and take some time to formulate a bulletproof plan. You should come to the next one in February (leave a comment below if you’re interested).

One thing that comes up a lot is the fear of not being ready to take action or not being good enough to reach for that dream. Here are my four tips to show your fear who’s boss.

Actionsteps1. Just say “F*&% it!” and jump right in. Say, for instance, you are thinking of applying for a new job, but all the postings make you panic and worry that you’re not experienced enough? Apply anyway, and see what happens. There’s no loss in trying, right?

2. Examine what’s really stopping you. Are you just procrastinating and making excuses, or are there legitimate reasons why you are not reaching your goals?

3. Set a deadline. Pick a date and write it down. It’s like when you want to go for a drink with a friend. Ever notice how when you don’t choose a date, it never happens? Well, guess what: That’s how it works with your goals, too. Having a firm deadline keeps you dedicated to putting everything in motion.

4. Taste the sweetness. Imagine what it will feel like to finally accomplish that goal, how awesome it will be to scratch it off your list. Let that be your motivation to keep you going.
