Pilates with Purpose Holiday Event

Ladies, this was our most fun Pilates with Purpose event yet! Kristen and I had such a blast with you. We had just about 40 people at Shag on Sunday December 7th, and everyone brought their Sunday best energy. Shag was the perfect space for our special holiday event, with it’s big beautiful windows and loft-like feel which almost gave you the hip yet chic feeling of being in New York City’s West Village.

Raffle tickets sold like hot cakes and bids on silent auction items grew and grew, while the ladies mingled with mimosas and hors d’oeuvres and made new connections.
In a little over 2 hours, we raised $1600 for HAIRraising for Boston Children’s Hospital!

We want to thank everyone who helped out and came out to make this event special and a huge success.

Just do it already, OK?

And here we are with only one month left till 2014. Have you started reflecting and planning for 2015? Perhaps you have so many things you hope to accomplish in the new year that you’re feeling a little overwhelmed. You don’t even know where to begin to accomplish them.

 

Taking action can be one of the most daunting tasks. Coming up with plans and goals is so easy. Implementing them – well, that’s a whole different game.

At my Pilates Pamper workshops we get down and dirty with setting goals and how to accomplish them. It’s great to sit in a safe environment, surrounded by like-minded and supportive individuals with the same fears. You really get to focus on yourself and take some time to formulate a bulletproof plan. You should come to the next one in February (leave a comment below if you’re interested).

One thing that comes up a lot is the fear of not being ready to take action or not being good enough to reach for that dream. Here are my four tips to show your fear who’s boss.

Actionsteps1. Just say “F*&% it!” and jump right in. Say, for instance, you are thinking of applying for a new job, but all the postings make you panic and worry that you’re not experienced enough? Apply anyway, and see what happens. There’s no loss in trying, right?

2. Examine what’s really stopping you. Are you just procrastinating and making excuses, or are there legitimate reasons why you are not reaching your goals?

3. Set a deadline. Pick a date and write it down. It’s like when you want to go for a drink with a friend. Ever notice how when you don’t choose a date, it never happens? Well, guess what: That’s how it works with your goals, too. Having a firm deadline keeps you dedicated to putting everything in motion.

4. Taste the sweetness. Imagine what it will feel like to finally accomplish that goal, how awesome it will be to scratch it off your list. Let that be your motivation to keep you going.

Pilates with Purpose: The 3 best takeaways!

On Wednesday night, Kristen and I held our second Pilates with Purpose event. We were both a little nervous for our second one. We had so much help from District Hall the first time around to share in the planning and make the event a success. This time, it was just the two of us (admit it, you just sang the song in your head) working through newsletters, word-of-mouth and of course good old social media in the hopes of getting another great group of women together.

It was so exciting to see tickets sell like hotcakes on our Eventbrite page when we started pushing it last week. Our goal (and capacity of our amazing venue 315 on A) was 30 people. We couldn’t have been more delighted with our turnout!  22 enthusiastic and fabulous people showed up, and we raised $550 for the Ellie Fund.

A run down of events:

After everyone got settled and took in some of the amazing and breathtaking views that the beautiful Skye Lounge of 315 on A had to offer, we got down and dirty with a kick-ass Pilates session, compliments of yours truly. From where I was standing, these peeps loved their hard workout and took all the extra reps with a smile. I guess it was all part of knowing that we were there for a great experience and a great cause.

What was really cool was how quickly the room broke into chatter after we finished with the workout. Most of us hung around until 9pm, and from what I could tell made some real and genuine connections.  This includes us!

My 3 biggest take aways from the event:

1)  The connections made were organic.  It didn’t feel as dry as networking sounds! No one felt judged or too shy to start chatting with others. We were all there for the same amazing cause and we took advantage of engaging with like-minded individuals. I can’t wait to see what this will grow into and how this group will empower each other!
2) The genuine interest and enthusiasm to help make a difference in our community. Change starts with you and me. We hold the power to make a meaningful contribution with our time here.
3) Fulfillment. Being part of something bigger than yourself can truly add to feeling like you’re living with a purpose. It’s so true that there is no I in Team. Nothing feels as good as working together and being part of a tribe!

All in all, we couldn’t be happier! It was such a great event at a beautiful venue with even more beautiful people!  We cannot wait for our next one – the holiday event!!

Wanna make networking fun?

Yes, I know that word gives most of us the creeps. But networking is a necessary evil that all of us have to do at some point. Whether you’re looking for a new job or would like to move up at your current one, or maybe you’ve started your own business — pretty much all of us can “get by with a little help from our friends,” as the Beatles might say.

Created by yours truly and Kristen Scanlon, Pilates With Purpose is a newly developed networking opportunity like no other. Gone are the days of having to skip the gym to attend a boring networking event. You’ll learn how you can stay fit, build your network, and be charitable all in one evening.

Kristen and I created Pilates with Purpose because we want to empower women in the work force to build a supportive community while we help those in need. Our aim is to help you gain a new perspective on networking.

Most people wait till it’s too late before they start networking. We want you to incorporate Pilates with Purpose in your monthly routine so you can connect with people no matter where you are in your career. Opportunities are everywhere and can present themselves at any moment. But before they’ll arrive, you have to show up to receive them. Be sure to register for Wednesday’s event here.
