Heads or Tails?

Heads or tails?

I recently had to make a tough decision: Do I teach more Pilates classes? Literally in just one week I had four teaching opportunities show up in my inbox. And I was so tempted to say yes to all of them.

In the past I would have been very torn and might have said yes simply out of fear of missing out on something good. Later I would have regretted my decision or realized I took on too much. This would have led to dealing with the next set of emotions of failing, letting people down, or being viewed as unreliable and flaky.

Although I was flattered by all the opportunities, it ended up being quite easy to decide which ones to pursue and which to let go of.

Here’s how I did it:

IMG_4365

1. Clarity. At the beginning of the year I set very strategic goals for myself. As you know, I’m trying to ramp up my life-coaching business, and as a result I’ve set clear guidelines of when and how much I should be teaching Pilates. Anything beyond than those guidelines is a big “no thank you!”

2. Abundance. I believe opportunities are a little like buses: There will always be another one. No, it won’t be the same one, but if you really want something and work for it, other ventures will come your way. So if you let this one go and realize later you should have taken it, manifest a new possibility for yourself. This also pulls you away from the “what if I make a mistake?” mindset.

3. Trusting my gut. If an opportunity doesn’t excite me, I don’t go for it. Yes, initially I was thrilled by the variety, but then as time went by, the excitement for some of them wore off. I immediately scratched them off my list and moved on. I literally set them free for someone else to have, knowing that the right opportunity will come my way when it’s ready.

Now I’d like to hear from you. How do you decide whether an opportunity is right for you? Or perhaps you struggle to know which is the best one? What’s making it hard to decide? Tell me in the comments below.

Getting real about Pilates…

I am so excited about this entry today! My online workouts are finally here, before you run off to check out my new store, I wanted to share a little more about the behind the scenes’ action and drama of bringing these workouts to life.

It’s so easy to think that it’s all fun, games and happens easily, so I wanted to get real with you today and share a little more about the process of bringing these workouts to life. Over the last few years, when I’ve shot new workouts you’ve seen me post beautiful pictures on-set: shots of beautiful South Africa, glam photo shoots, smiling poses and the works. But today we take a look at the other half that intagram and twitter didn’t see and hear

During production frustration of days when:

  • Mother nature’s wind or clouds and the city’s buzzing noises disrupts our perfectly quiet scenes.
  • The times we’d have to schlep to the studio at 8:30pm at night after a long day’s work.
  • When people walk right through your set while you’re filming.
  • Or as the blooper’s video shows: the times when I can’t get my words right and waste a ton of time.

Post Production self-doubt: No matter how hard or good the workouts are, there’s always that little voice inside me that will say:

  • “What if no one likes this?”
  • “What if nobody buys it?”
  • “What if…all the horrible things that can go wrong goes wrong.”

That’s the thing about working for yourself and creating something: it brings up every single insecurity that you never even knew you had. You’ll go through a whirlwind of emotions from excitement, frustration, and anxiety, to overwhelm and amazement, joy and back again –  while your facebook feed captures all the glam shots. While your facebook feed captures all the glam shots.

But here’s the thing – if I let my lack of confidence get the better of me:

  • I wouldn’t have move forward,
  • I’d always wonder “what if I had created ….”.
  • I would never would have learned as much as I have or grown as an individual.
  • And most importantly: I would have robbed everyone who’s ever bought my workouts from living a healthier and more active life.

So, here I am: super excited, wrapped in a little piece of nervous with a splash of insecurity with my 3 new workouts and a Pilates Super Pack just for you. I hope you’ll enjoy them, I hope you’ll use them often get fit. And above all I hope that they’ll inspire you to also create your dreams.

AND NOW our winner – CONGRATULATIONS: Anna akitsosdmd@aol.com -please email me to claim your prize!!

Join me for my release party on March 22nd at noon at South Boston Yoga, RSVP here.

With all my love,
Hanneke

JanYOUary – this month it’s all about you.

JanYOUary is most definitely all about you! As we hit the ground running for a successful year, don’t forget to give yourself some TLC. You have great goals you’ve stet out to accomplish and the best way to achieve them is to keep making good choices that benefit you.

I stumbled across this post by @kristinquinnmom yesterday:
“In the end… I am the ONLY ONE who can give my children a Happy Mother, who loves life”
I love this because it doesn’t only pertain to Moms, it’s applicable to all of us. We can swap out the words to cover everything in life and the lesson stays the same: In the end YOU and only you are in charge of your happiness and your attitude towards life. YOU make this conscious choice.

Tomorrow night I’m going to party like this!

I love this time of the year. The last few days of 2014, when you get to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. To me the beginning of a new year is almost like turning a page or maybe better: starting a new book. Excitement and motivation of dreams and goals that you can accomplish. The promise to yourself that THIS year is going to be your year.

So what dreams and ideals do you have for this year? What do you want to accomplish?
I know, I know – you probably don’t even make New Year’s resolutions anymore right? They say that  around Jan 22nd most people have broken all those resolutions, so what’s the point?
What if I told you it could all be different this year? You can set meaningful goals and construct clear ways to achieve your dreams. I’ll show you how to do it at my Pilates Pamper workshop on Feb 8th, 2015. Reserve your spot here.

PilatesPamperWEBSITE

The workshop will provide you with a safe and intimate environment where you and your priorities are the sole focus. We’ll enjoy Pilates, High Tea and Mimosas in one of Boston’s most luxurious building’s sky lounge. While taking in the magnificent views, you’ll dig deep into your goals and create clear steps to achieve them. You’ll also enjoy a mani-pedi and leave feeling refreshed and pampered.  You’ll have a concrete action plan to achieving you goals. When real world distractions slow you down, you’ll have a direct path to guide you back to progress.

This year will be different: You hold the power to make it spectacular!Take back control now.

I hope you have a great time ringing in the new year and I am excited for what 2015 will bring us! Thank you for your continued support and readership.

Pilates with Purpose: The 3 best takeaways!

On Wednesday night, Kristen and I held our second Pilates with Purpose event. We were both a little nervous for our second one. We had so much help from District Hall the first time around to share in the planning and make the event a success. This time, it was just the two of us (admit it, you just sang the song in your head) working through newsletters, word-of-mouth and of course good old social media in the hopes of getting another great group of women together.

PWP315
It was so exciting to see tickets sell like hotcakes on our Eventbrite page when we started pushing it last week. Our goal (and capacity of our amazing venue 315 on A) was 30 people. We couldn’t have been more delighted with our turnout!  22 enthusiastic and fabulous people showed up, and we raised $550 for the Ellie Fund.

A run down of events:

After everyone got settled and took in some of the amazing and breathtaking views that the beautiful Skye Lounge of 315 on A had to offer, we got down and dirty with a kick-ass Pilates session, compliments of yours truly. From where I was standing, these peeps loved their hard workout and took all the extra reps with a smile. I guess it was all part of knowing that we were there for a great experience and a great cause.

What was really cool was how quickly the room broke into chatter after we finished with the workout. Most of us hung around until 9pm, and from what I could tell made some real and genuine connections.  This includes us!

IMG_7343

My 3 biggest take aways from the event:

1)  The connections made were organic.  It didn’t feel as dry as networking sounds! No one felt judged or too shy to start chatting with others. We were all there for the same amazing cause and we took advantage of engaging with like-minded individuals. I can’t wait to see what this will grow into and how this group will empower each other!
2) The genuine interest and enthusiasm to help make a difference in our community. Change starts with you and me. We hold the power to make a meaningful contribution with our time here.
3) Fulfillment. Being part of something bigger than yourself can truly add to feeling like you’re living with a purpose. It’s so true that there is no I in Team. Nothing feels as good as working together and being part of a tribe!

All in all, we couldn’t be happier! It was such a great event at a beautiful venue with even more beautiful people!  We cannot wait for our next one – the holiday event!!

 Special thanks too:

Ross Chanowski and Amy Fisher for helping us get the beautiful venue.

Fabletics & the Ellie Fund for filling our swag baggies with cute gear.

Pilates with Purpose: debut event September 24th

I am so excited to finally announce this! I have literally been dreaming this up for months and thanks to Kristen Scanlon Esq. (Of Counsel)‘s help ( who it turns out had similar dreams.) it’s slowly shaping into reality! I’ll be sure to share more of the history of where this idea came from soon, but first, let’s give you the quick DL on Pilates with Purpose!

ppevent

What is Pilates with Purpose:

Pilates with Purpose is a newly developed networking opportunity like no other. Gone are the days of having to skip the gym to attend a boring networking event.    Learn how you can stay fit, build your network and be charitable all in one evening. Move.  Every event will start with a 45-minute Pilates class taught by award-winning instructor, Hanneke Antonelli.  Give.  All proceeds related to the event will go to a local Boston charity (we’ll pick a different one every month to spread around our support!) We focus on empowering professional women to build community and support for their hectic every day lives, while supporting women and children in need to do the same.  Connect.  After class, you’re invited to mingle and encouraged to build new connections and strengthen your referral network with like-minded professionals. Sign up to receive news about our upcoming events. We look forward to meeting you!

For our very first event we’ve partnered with the peeps from District Hall for their Welcome Wednesdays event September 24th, 2014. Sign up here to attend the event. We’ll be there with many other vendors and it’s bound to be a fun and lively night! I’ll be teaching a 45min Pilates session starting around 6pm (exact times and more details to follow). We’ll be accepting donations for Cradles to Crayons via Welcome Wednesday’s Eventbrite page. Reserve your spot now!

We are excited to have you as part of our community. We are currently gearing up to bring you exciting networking opportunities every month. Events that will keep you fit, help grow your network and make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Wanna get involved?

We are currently looking for venues to host  Pilates with Purpose nights. We need a space big enough to fit about 30 yoga mats. Know any cool spots around town?

Girls this one’s just for you!

Good Morning,

Today’s post’s mainly for the ladies. Boys – no offense or hard feelings, you know I love you! I have something for you guys right at the bottom of the page.

Girls, continue reading. I am super excited to share what I’m about to reveil to you!

But first let me ask you:

Have you been feeling like life’s just so busy lately? You work crazy long hours, your packed summer schedule has left you with lots of fun Instagram pictures and incredible memories, but my goodness, you’ve had zero time for yourself and you’re completely drained.

You almost feel like you’re running out of time and there’s still so much you want to accomplish. Unfortunately, you have no energy or time to get things done.

You’ve lost your focus on the goals you had set out to accomplish for the year. Heck some of them don’t even seem important anymore. So much has happened and new ideas and goals are floating around in your head. Things feel like they’re about to spin out of control.

Then there’s always Facebook and Twitter that keeps showing you how successful and happy everyone else you know is. They all look like they have everything so “together” and under control!

You feel defeated, you’re overwhelmed and you’re not getting anywhere at all. You are stuck.

Does the above resonate with how you’re feeling? Well then I have just the remedy for you. I have developed a very special event just for you!

How to make your partner perfect.

It all starts off nice and romantic and your significant other can do no wrong. The person is simply perfect. Fast forward a couple of years and all of a sudden you may be experiencing some serious problems with your partner’s behavior. Out of nowhere, you feel like there are a million little things you want to change.

hb_16

STOP. Turn that finger right back at yourself. More often than not, when I’ve gone to this “I’m annoyed with my partner, so let’s pick him apart” stage, I almost always have had some insecurities of my own to address. I would be unhappy with my own behavior or how I handled a situation, or be frustrated with myself for not achieving goals I had set. That’s when it’s so easy to focus on your partner’s quirks.

Becoming aware of this projection of my own frustrations onto my partner has helped me be less harsh and more loving toward him – especially when I am not performing at my best and actually need to lean on him.

As my good friend Benjamin Degenhardt, and fellow Pilates instructor says: “When you’re moving from your authentic self and a place of good intention while allowing others to be themselves, things flow in perfect harmony.”

My grandpa used to say, “Live and let others live.” I’d like to combine Benjamin and my granddad’s sayings to make one of my own: “Be yourself and let others be themselves.”

ActionstepsIn today’s Action Steps, there are a few ways to help you do that by focusing on the positive.

1) What qualities about your partner do you enjoy and love?
2) What do you adore about your relationship?
3) What is going on in your own life that’s making you so critical right now?
4) Is the behavior that’s annoying you new?
5) Can you talk to your partner and tell him or her what’s going on with you?

Remember: Communication is always key to building a strong and lasting relationship. Your partner should be your best friend whom you can share anything with, even the stuff that’s tough to admit.
