Surviving two recessions: more robust and resilient

Surviving two recessions: more robust and resilient

On today’s episode, we’re talking to Brian Milauskus, founder and owner of Kidstock! Theater.

Brian has successfully grown this business to seven figures twice over the last 28 years. A creative genius, Brain first founded Kidstock! with the intention to simply make a living for himself. The company quickly grew to a flourishing business that helps kids use their creative ability through theater to develop critical interpersonal skills and boost their confidence.

Kidstock now offers many opportunities for kids to reach their full creative expression through afterschool movie-making classes, birthday parties, summer camps, they also offer an online curriculum and more.

Under Brian’s guidance, Kidtock! survived two significant recessions – the great recession and the latest recession, which was induced by COVID.

  1. What’s your biggest lesson when it comes to surviving recessions?

Patience – Trust – Don’t panic – release yourself from blame – accept and continue rather than deny and stop – do you want to journey or do you want to arrive?

  1. Recently, in our work together in the Up Level Program, your most profound “aha moment” was the necessity to lead yourself before leading others. Why was this such a big realization for you, and how will this help you create future business success?

Self-employed people are parents to their businesses

In the beginning you need to do everything for it, and then over time you need to let go and allow it some freedom to grow and to become independent, and eventually you need to see your business as an adult child and learn to live with it in a parallel role as opposed to a responsible role – your job is too become responsive to its needs instead of being responsible for its needs.

It can be very difficult to let go of something you love – to stand back and watch it make mistakes on its own and learn from them.

Building a working relationship with this new entity not owning it or letting it own you

Semantics – Control as a noun rather than a verb – being, having, maintaining, managing

  1. You’ve always been interested in personal development and reaching your highest potential. How has this interest and desire helped you in growing your business over the years?

Finding the reward in learning from missteps

Examining rather than accepting

“What if?” as opposed to “what now?”

  1. When you first created Kidstock! You did so out of the desire to “simply make a living.” – but it has grown into a huge success that completely surpassed that first intention. How do you think your focus on being creative and chasing the fun versus the money as a measure for success hindered and helped your success?

Ignorance is bliss – I would have closed if the only metric for success were financial

Theatrical producer in me knew how to present – followed the idea that live as if you have what you want

Hindsight shows me where there would have been little compromise and great growth IF I had understood myself and the dynamic of where I wanted to go better

  1. What was your biggest business challenge of 2020 and how did you overcome it?

Survival – Responding as opposed to reacting – Allowing myself to consider all the options available to me without feeling the need to decide

I involuntarily revisited the mindset I had when I started and connected again with why I started and was able to let go of the trappings I had acquired and placed value on over time

  1. What’s next for Kidstock!? And what mindset shifts/personal development or other business strategies are you currently deploying to help you to get there?

My next step is to return to what was but redefine it for now – circumstances have challenged some of the basic controlling assumptions I had been working from – what do I “need” – both professionally and personally – has been deconstructed and examined to the point of being redefined.

In many ways the silver lining of this pandemic has been the chance to stop running the race, be the Monday morning quarterback to review the plays and the choices made in the game, and then looking ahead be able to return to the game wiser and more aware.

After losing what I had and still being okay, the anticipation of returning to what I had in a more neutral mindset but with a larger toolbox excites me – the business concept which once upon a time was just me as a self-employed person remains intact, but the dynamic of curating a team and managing their efforts and communicating with them in my own best interests is a newly understood potential for me that I am anxious to develop into a stronger skill

Here’s what Brian said after he completed the Up Level Program:

“The most dramatic “aha moment” for me during the Up Level Program was the necessity for me to lead myself before leading others.

My business has been reignited on all levels as a result of my participation in the Up Level Program. I anticipate my team being more proactive and independent.” ~ Brian Milauskas, Founder & CEO Kidstock! Theater

Reaching Your Full Potential In 2021

Reaching Your Full Potential In 2021

On today’s episode, we take a closer look at the habits that will help you reach your full potential in 2021.

I will also share a great resource that will help you not only reach your highest potential but also re-energize you and set you up for innovation and rebuilding a more sustainable and profitable business that also give you freedom on in 2021.

A common denominator that almost every client that seeks out to work with me has, is the desire to reach their full potential. They have so much creativity and tenacity.

Most of them started their business as a solopreneur and quickly grew its way beyond their wildest imaginations.

These high achieving entrepreneurs are on a quest to accomplish great things.

This innate desire, unfortunately, often leads to these folks:

  • Overworking in their business
  • Having unrealistic expectations of themselves
  • They are often unable or unwilling to delegate tasks because
    • They believe that they can do it better than anyone else
    • fear that if they do let go of control that things will go wrong .
  • All of the busy work prevents them from then stepping into being the visionary of their business — which directly impedes their business’ ability to grow and scale in a way that will create freedom.

All of the above leads to lots of frustration, exhaustion, and in the worst cases: burnout and a big desire to sell the business and run away to a beach somewhere.

This is the exact opposite of their desire to achieve their highest potential.

So how does one reach one’s greatness? How do you perform at optimum levels of capability?

To do so you have to cultivate awareness about:

  • Your unique energy and how you recharge it
Are you an introvert? Do you know how to get into a flowing, calm, and clear state in your mind and body?  Knowing your personality type and doing various personality tests and readings will help you understand how to harness your power.
  • Your inner critic and doubter
This is where mindset work and paying attention to what you think becomes vital.
  • What are your beliefs around your business and your ability are and challenging those
  • Your unique leadership qualities that will get the most out of your team
  • Do you know where your business is going?
    • Have you re-evaluated your business goals and vision (with a year like 2020, you may have had many new insights, ideas, and ahas — have you taken the time to re-imagine your vision?)
Now, if you’re going, ooh yes, THIS IS EXACTLY where I have a blindspot.

This is what I need to do and want to work on. I have the perfect resource for you.

20 Business Lessons of 2020

20 Business Lessons of 2020

It’s a new year and I hope that you’re just as excited as I am to finally bid the beast of a year that was 2020 adios and farewell.

As always though, we do learn some of our best lessons when the going gets tough — and so, in today’s episode of the Up Level Project Podcast, I’m sharing 20 lessons that my clients shared/experienced and ones that I learned as well. Click here to get the 20 lessons from 2020!

Let’s dive right in:

  1. You are not in control of everything.
  2. You are not your business.
  1. Getting stuck in the busy work vs. proactive role in your business leads to frustration and burnout.
  1. Healthy financials and cashflow are super important.
  2. Resiliency routines help leaders to gain clarity.
  1. You are your business’s most significant asset.
  1. When leaders have clarity, they inspire productivity and confidence
  2. Stop expecting last year’s path to success to give you the same results this year.
  3. When you learn how to work with your personality type and everything that makes you unique, you gain clarity, energy and get results faster.
  1. Regularly evaluating your Why behind your business.
  2. Business systems and back-office processes are vital to support business growth.
  3. Stop and ask yourself how you can simplify something more often.
  1. Showing up as the leader and drawing firm boundaries with your team empowers them (and will not always feel comfortable or easy.)
  2. Before you can lead others, you have to lead yourself.
  3. Feeling fear is normal.
  4. Don’t take things personally. Blaming yourself when your business isn’t performing the way you expected isn’t productive. It will only mess up your self-esteem. Which will further sabotage your ability to see the solutions that will get you to better results.
  5. Surround yourself with other business owners, people with whom you can safely share ideas, experiences, and challenges. This will help you get out of your head – feel less isolated, acknowledge, and celebrate your wins.
  6. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of courage and commitment to achieve your highest potential.
  7. The more chaotic things get, the more critical it is to have open and honest communication lines with your team and clients.
  8. You will always underestimate your progress and accomplishments — take a minute to acknowledge yourself. Because you’re awesome

May these lessons help you as you set out to accomplish great things in 2021.

The Scientifically Proven Mindset Behind Success

The Scientifically Proven Mindset Behind Success

An article that was published earlier this year on ScienceDaily.com reads:

“To succeed in modern life, people need to accomplish challenging tasks effectively. Many successful entrepreneurs, business people, students, athletes, and more, tend to be more strategic — and hence, more effective — than others at meeting such challenges. A new study published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows that one crucial psychological factor behind their success may be a “strategic mindset.”

On today’s episode, we dive deeper into what the article highlights that will help you cultivate a strategic mindset. I’ll give you an easy formula that will help you step into that strategic mindset faster.

According to this article published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the good news is that people can implement the findings that a strategic mindset leads to more success in their lives immediately. In the article, Prof Chen advised, “As you approach whatever challenging goal you are pursuing, you can ask yourself, ‘What are things I can do to help myself (and others)? Is there a way to do this even better?’ If something you have been working on isn’t going so well, can you step back and ask yourself, ‘How might I go about this differently? Is there another approach I can try to help this go better?'”

I’ve seen this attitude create excellent results in working with many 6 – 7 figure business owners. However, in my experience, I have found that something has to happen before entrepreneurs can step into that strategic ACTION part that these questions pose.

In the article, Co-author Professor Carol Dweck from the Department of Psychology at Stanford University explained, “There are key points in any challenging pursuit that require people to step back and come up with new strategies. A strategic mindset helps them do just that.”, you have to step back and then ask those questions. Some important has to happen in that stepping back.”

So what has to happen in that stepping back?

I call this the secret sauce — the groundwork that will determine how successfully you can see the solutions that those questions are designed to help you see.

To get out of a state of overwhelm or panic and lay that foundation for a strategic mindset — business owners must have a basic understanding of how the mind works and how that influences their actions.

To understand behavioral patterns, we can, of course, look to the world of cognitive-behavioral therapy (some call it the ABC model.  There are many articles about this model online. Here’s a quick summary of the CBT model, according to the BecksInstitute: “Cognitive behavior therapy is based on a cognitive theory of psychopathology. The cognitive model describes how people’s perceptions of, or spontaneous thoughts about, situations influence their emotional, behavioral (and often physiological) reactions. Individuals’ perceptions are often distorted and dysfunctional when they are distressed. They can learn to identify and evaluate their “automatic thoughts” (spontaneously occurring verbal or imaginal cognitions) and to correct their thinking so that it more closely resembles reality. When they do so, their distress usually decreases, they are able to behave more functionally, and (especially in anxiety cases), their physiological arousal abates.”

So, in short: something happens — and your thoughts/beliefs around this will determine your actions, leading to specific results.

The first learned about this in a book by Jack Pranksy — Somebody Should have told us — and this knowledge saved my life. And over the years, I started adapting this model to specifically hello entrepreneurs build a more strategic mindset.

Over the years, I deduced it to a quick formula, which I dubbed the UP LEVEL FORMULA — and in my forthcoming book The Up Level Project — I dive super deep into the science behind this formula and how it can help get better results.

This formula (along with the other tools of The Up Level program)  has helped my Up Level Program clients land huge contracts and develop new revenue streams. I love this tool as it’s something fast and easy to implement to achieve anything you want.

The Up Level Formula works as follows:

Beliefs + Thoughts + Language + Feelings + Actions = Results

To get different results, you have to upgrade or change one or all of the things in this formula.

Bringing that back to the strategic mindset questions: if you believe that it’s impossible to achieve something or it’s too late to fix that problem, then you’re going to have thoughts that line up with that belief, you’re going to use language that suggests that you have that belief,

For instance, you may say things like: it’s never going to work, it’s too late.

These specific thoughts will then give you feelings of angst and fear (which will kick up more panicky thoughts.), and all of this will then influence your actions.

You don’t want to take action/to take half-hearted effort — and that will influence your results.

When you implement the Up Level Formula: Beliefs + Thoughts + Language + Feelings + Actions = Results

You’ll be able to step into that strategic mindset faster and give innovative solutions answers to those strategic mindset questions that the article poses.

So let’s recap what you now know:

1 – Science has proven that a strategic mindset is needed to achieve success

2 – You can cultivate that mindset by asking yourself specific questions

3 – To supercharge your results and strategic perspective, you can implement the Up Level Formula: Beliefs + Thoughts + Language + Feelings + Actions = Results

If you want to dive deeper into this work or work with me — be sure to listen to the outro. Thank you so much for listening, and we’ll catch up next time on The Up Level Project Podcast.

FACT CHECK:

In doing some fact checks and further research into both CBT and specifically the work of Dr Jack Pransky — I discovered that there is a slight (yet significant difference)

Dr Pranky is a Three Principles Author, Trainer and Practitioner — The three principles refer to Universal Mind, Consciousness and Thought– and how these three work together to create everyone’s unique “reality,” out of which they then think, feel and act.

And CBT’s approach differs from this in that they believe that the outside event is neutral and that you can change your experience/feelings and behavior around that neutral event by changing your thoughts about it.

So the way I interpret it in short is that The Three Principles believe that you create your reality by cultivating awareness through Universal Mind, Consciousness and Thought — which is more inlign with the principles of The Up Level Formula where I operate on the basis that you can create the results you want by cultivating awareness and adjusting your beliefs, thoughts, language, feelings and actions.

And the CBT only focuses on the idea that you can change your experience of the activating event but not reality itself.

Like I said, a very slight difference but I did want to ensure I provide you with the correct facts and insight of where my work and the research behind it comes from.

Thanks again for listening.

Reflection as a growth strategy

Reflection as a growth strategy

On today’s episode we are going to discuss how reflection helps you to get better results, and accelerate growth. I’ll also share a powerful resource that you can use to help you cultivate your weekly reflection process.

As Albert Einstein’s famous quote states:

“Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.”

I tend to see that business owners are all geniuses, learning from big mistakes and making sure that they understand them and correct those missteps in the future to get better results.

What about those smaller, less obvious ones? How do you spot those and ensure that you don’t keep making those?

You don’t just have to wait for only big mistakes to happen for you to learn or accelerate business growth.

Drawing from Einstein’s wisdom: we can be geniuses more often.

Suppose you want better/different results because you’re a high-achieving entrepreneur who wants to reach your full potential.

It’s time that you start measuring your progress on a regular basis so you can identify what new actions need to be taken instead.

How?

By allowing yourself time to reflect and debrief regularly.

In my work with clients, I usually help them develop a weekly practice of reflection, using my CEO Power Sheet — which you can download right now.

By doing the CEO Power Sheet regularly, it helps my clients to:

See what’s working? What keeps them motivated?

They can then build on those strategies and amplify them. Allowing consistent action in a direction that will offer the results they desire and eventually create lots of effortless momentum.

Notice what’s not working and make adjustments faster.

When you hold these debrief meetings weekly with your team or when you finish a big project, it allows you to spot inefficiencies, identify where you can improve, and adjust things faster, helping you course-correct with more ease.

Help you stay focused:
Checking in on where you’re at, where you want to weekly, helps you stay focused and consistent. And we all know that consistent action is the secret sauce of building success.

Saves time and create more freedom:
By bringing focus to actions that give the results you want, you’ll waste less time on energy-draining activities. This will help you create more freedom in your business.

Helps you grow:
In the Up Level League Mastermind and my 6-week Up Level Program, we spend a lot of time cultivating awareness about entrepreneurs’ personal-development and growth

Continuing with Einstein’s theory:
Getting better results means cultivating awareness about those actions that are holding you back.

Fact is: Whether you are doing focused personal development work or not, you’re always evolving as a human; you’re changing.

And because you’re constantly changing, your needs and desires will be changing as well. These factors will significantly influence how you operate in your business; it will impact your motivation and, of course, your actions too.

When you are aware of this growth, you can harness it to accelerate the results you want. Also allowing you to make adjustments to ensure that you stay fulfilled in your business.

Taking time to reflect helps you track how you’re changing as a business owner and will help you run your business differently. This will align better with the results you want.

For instance, in a recent CEO yearly review with one of our Up Level Program members, the client figured out that they had completely changed from who they were when they first started their business.

Yet, they were still running their business as though they were still the person they were way back when.

Running their business from that vantage point significantly impacted their future vision of what the company could become.

In short, not stepping into who they had become and thinking about their business in that way held back future business growth opportunities.

So let’s do a quick recap. In this episode, you learned that:

  1. If you want different results, you have to start doing things differently (And stay tuned for next week’s episode to get the formula to help you DO things differently and uplevel your results.)
  2. How reflection helps you to better your results by helping you:
    1. Identify what’s working and what’s not
    2. Save time and create more freedom
    3. Help personal development which accelerates business growth
  3. Remember to download your CEO Powersheet and start holding your weekly CEO meetings with yourself as well!

Gaining clarity that leads to confident and inspired action

Gaining clarity that leads to confident and inspired action

On today’s episode, we continue our conversation from episode 86 and dive deeper into ways to gain clarity that will lead to inspired action. Clarity without action steps that inspire and motivate us will only lead to burnout and frustration. In today’s episode, you’ll learn four foundational ingredients that will have you taking energizing action every day.

When it comes to gaining clarity, I’ve noticed that there are usually three foundational elements that need work first before clarity can spring into energizing action:

And they are:

  1. Trust
  2. Commitment
  3. Creating Space
  4. A weekly reflection on progress

Let’s take a closer look at all three of these. I’ll give a few pointers to help you build on these principles:

  1. TRUST

When it comes to building a business and creating the vision that you hold for that business and your life there are a lot of things that are out of your control.

Giving up control is a big hurdle for most high achievers. This tends to keep them stuck and unable to break through to the next level.

As much as we like to pretend that everything is in our control. 2020 has been living proof that actually– we don’t have that much power at all.

Entrepreneurs need to control EVERYTHING that eats up a lot of bandwidth. This creates a lot of inner friction, analysis paralysis that drains energy, and in the most extreme cases, leads to burnout.

Of course, the negative brain chatter that a perceived lack of control condors up, fog your brain, and immediately blocks any clarity and decisive action that wants to come through.

It stalls you and can take any action. It feels like you’re fighting an uphill battle. – messes with your trust

So, how do you silence the chatter:
  • You work on trusting and having faith that no matter what. You’ll figure out solutions to any problem that your business presents.
  • Focus on what you can control in a situation and let the rest go
  • Having a mantra-like: everything is always working out for the higher good of everyone involved usually helps clients to ground down and silence those doubting thoughts.

2 COMMITMENT

Creating your vision and having the courage to take the actions required to get you there takes unwavering commitment.

You have to commit that you’re going to do whatever it takes to achieve your vision. To get to this level of commitment, I usually get my Up Level Program members and Up Level League mastermind to ask themselves:

On a scale from 1 – 10 (10 being extremely committed), How committed am I to this goal?

If the answer is anything less than an 8, I ask them what will get them eight or higher?

This question helps to create further clarity by assisting clients in reevaluating their WHY/reasons or motivation behind their vision.

It also allows them to see where what they say they want and their actions are not aligned; it also shows us where they may be neglecting self-care/meeting essential needs that are needed to create energizing action.

3. CLARITY NEEDS SPACE:

When you started your business, you had to be the Chief Everything Officer — so you did a lot of busywork.

Now that you’re a multiple 6 -7 + figure entrepreneur, it requires you to work in a whole new way. That means way less busy work — which is why, as I mentioned in Episode 86 — I spend a lot of time helping my clients to reframe and shift their mindset around “hard work = success” or “not being busy = lazy.”

All the busy work has taken a toll and may have sucked your excitement for your business out of you. When we’re uninspired, clarity that energizes us enough to take massive action is impossible to get.

To create more freedom and higher profits require an evident (and exciting) vision —

A vision that will allow you to lead others to places where they would never go by themselves.

This kind of clarity can not happen when you are bogged down in the day-to-day.

The clarity needed to grow beyond where you’re at now requires SPACE. Space to think outside the box, room to play, freedom to be creative, and it’s way beyond problem-solving mode and into expansive and innovative thinking.

Most of my clients have forgotten how to dream. Dreaming of what’s possible is exactly what’s needed to create more freedom and profits.

How do you get into this space?

  • Mediation
  • Journaling
  • And one of my favorites to set it off:” The what if” game.

The trick here is to set aside time where you’re playing and having fun, knowing that you’re not committing to anything and therefore you don’t have to jump into solution mode just yet.

4: REFLECTION CREATES CLARITY

Finally, to step into inspired action, reflection is needed. You can only get clear on where you’re going when you know where you’re at.

Knowing where you’re at and reflecting on lessons learned will help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you’re going.

I recommend a weekly CEO review or debrief to help you do this.

During your review you can ask questions that will help you see what you’ve learned, what progress was made, what worked, and what didn’t.

DOWNLOAD YOUR CEO POWER SHEET HERE.

All of the above will help you to stay not only motivated but also gain further clarity on the road to success.

So to sum it all up: Clarity informs inspired and energizing action.

The steps you can implement straight away to get you to take confident action are the following:

  1. Let go of what is NOT in your control and trust yourself and the universe that everything is always working out in your favor
  2. The more committed you are the easier it will be to gain clarity and see what steps to take to create your vision
  3. Create space and time to dream and allow yourself time to get clearer on your vision and identify creative and fun ways to create success
  4. Start holding weekly CEO meetings with yourself where you reflect on what you’ve learned, what’s working, and what adjustments need to be made.

Three mistakes entrepreneurs make when it comes to gaining clarity and how to overcome them

Three mistakes entrepreneurs make when it comes to gaining clarity and how to overcome them

On today’s episode, we’ll explore the three mistakes entrepreneurs make regarding gaining clarity and how to correct them. We’ll also look at why clarity is so important and why it seems to be so elusive. You’ll also leave with three clear strategies that you can implement straightaway to help you gain clarity in any situation.

When it comes to business, clarity is super important. That’s why it’s the very first section in my book The Up Level Project: Your guide to unlocking higher profits while creating more freedom, and it’s also one of the first modules we cover in The Up Level Program — my 6-week course that’s the companion to my book and this podcast.

Why is it so important: because Clarity lights up the way to success. But not just the general way to that goal.

When you have clarity about your vision, how you work best, and your top leadership qualities, then that clarity lights up your UNIQUE path to reaching your full potential (and yes, that means higher profits and freedom)

But clarity seems to be one of the biggest struggles for humans in general. And it’s no different for business owners. Clarity can be elusive.

In my work with dozens of multiple 6 – 7 figure business owners, I’ve identified THREE big mistakes that prevent clarity from shining through:

1. People are looking for clarity in the wrong place
Meaning: when people think about getting clear, they usually start looking at the steps to achieve a goal. But when we do this — our brains immediately begin to see all the problems and potential things that may go wrong and why a plan won’t work.

These thoughts kick up more fear and other emotions that further blurs our road to success.

To get the action plan that will lead you to your vision, you have to focus on WHAT YOU WANT.

What is your vision? The more you can stay in vision mode, the easier it will become for your brain to ID HOW to get there.

In the previous round of the UP LEVEL PROGRAM, this was a huge realization for my 7-figure business owners. When we focus on WHAT the how to get there naturally lights up for us.

Which brings us to our second mistake entrepreneurs make when it comes to gaining clarity:

2. Jumping into action too fast
Most of the multiple 6-7 figure entrepreneurs I work with are high achievers; they are extremely driven and impatient. They want results fast. Of course, this behavior is the very quality that helped them grow their business to multiple 6 and 7 figures.

BUT it’s also the same quality that will make it impossible to get to the next level without expending massive amounts of energy.
Stuck in the weeds and spinning one’s wheels but getting no-where.

For entrepreneurs to gain clarity on their vision and see the path to make that vision a reality, while getting inspired and energized to take action with ease vs. action that drains you; business owners have to learn to sit in inaction a little longer, focusing longer on what they want and why they want it.

When working with mastermind clients and Up Level Program clients on this, we do a lot of work around rewiring old beliefs that doing nothing is somehow lazy or the belief that you’ll somehow fall behind by slowing down.

3. Fear of getting it wrong

Lots of people have trouble figuring out what they want aka gaining clarity because they’re scared that they’ll somehow get it wrong.

This mentality shows us that there is a lack of trust on the business owner’s behalf. I help my clients to work on their faith muscle a little more…

This is exactly what we’ll get into in our next episode, so be sure to tune back in next week!

For now — remember that there is no getting something wrong, there is only getting it, learning from it, and then upleveling with new wisdom. You only fail when you decide to not get up and try again.

Ok, here are your three takeaways that will help you to avoid making those pesky mistakes when it comes to getting crystal clear on what you want:

1 – Focus on what you want vs how you’ll get there

2 – Focus on your vision and stay in inaction until you feel inspired to take action

3 – There is no getting it wrong, there’s only learning and choosing to uplevel from where you’re at

Welcome to The New Up Level Project Podcast formerly known as The Savvy Business Show.

Today we are going to dive in to my business model and why we are moving to a rebrand, my new book (coming in Spring of 2021), and how I developed The Uplevel Formula-which is my #1 tool I use to help people.

– Changing limiting beliefs or blocks that are keeping them to reach their full potential

– Launch new businesses and revenue streams

– Take their company from 0 – $ 500 000 in 2 years

Come find out more on The New Uplevel Project Podcast

Before I dive into what the new show will hold for you…

So about a year ago, I decided that I was going to do something that I never thought I’d be able to do: and that was writing a book. — for the record, it’s something that I never thought I’d be able to do — but by using the very strategies I share in my book, I was able to sit down and effortlessly write the first draft of the book in 90 days.

And We’re currently putting the finishing touches on the book, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

As you can imagine writing a book against the backdrop of the year that has been 2020 has been an extraordinary experience, and yet the more I wrote, the more it became clear that the strategies I share in the book are needed more than ever NOW. Waiting for the book to come out next year – wasn’t going to cut it, and that’s why we launched the Up Level Program — the 6-week companion course to the book and why we’re also here today, launching the new PODCAST: The Up Level Project Podcast.

This podcast aims to give you tangible takeaways and strategies that you can implement to help you shift your perspective, overcome challenges, uplevel your leadership skills, and create more freedom and profits in the process.

Are stories, experiences, and core beliefs from our past.

In the coming episodes,

We’ll dive deeper into the principles that I share in my book that will be released in Spring 2021, and we’ll also interview special guests to further help you uplevel your profits and leadership skills.

we’ll explore my Up Level formula ( an equation that originates from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.)→  my number one tool for that is The UP LEVEL FORMULA  — which is my #1 tool I use to help people

– Launch new businesses and revenue streams
– Take their company from 0 – $ 500 000 in 2 years

  • Have their best revenue year in 2020
  • Secure 6-figure and up investments

This formula that helped me to overcome depression and build two award-winning businesses in under five years (and write the first draft of my book in under 90 days.)  in more depth will help you cultivate more introspection,

Growing a successful business that will give you both financial freedom and fulfillment means that you have to:

Assess the quality of your commitment to your goals often.

Gain clarity on your vision.

You have to build awareness about your beliefs, thoughts, language, feelings, and behaviors and uplevel and adjust them to align with your vision.

Hone your leadership and managerial skills

Focus on business development, And always strive to do better than you did yesterday.

This is our mission and quest that we’re setting out to achieve in the Up Level Project Podcast episodes.

Business Growth And Innovation w/ Claire Ransom

Business Growth And Innovation w/ Claire Ransom

On today’s episode of The Savvy Business Show, we have a very special guest. Her name is Claire Ransom. We’ve heard of her before. Claire is the founder of Lazy Flora. Lazy Flora is the United Kingdom’s top garden plants, subscription service and has been awarded the Independents Best Buy Award.

In this episode, we’re going to be talking to Claire about:

-How she got started

-The lessons that she’s learned through fundraising

-The steps she took to experience exponential growth in this pandemic.

Let’s Dive in…

The idea for Lazy Flora came to Claire after she moved into a new apartment that would finally allow her to have an outdoor garden. After looking for plants for her new apartment in the UK, she quickly realized how difficult it was to find plants that she wanted and when she did the quality was not what she was looking for.

Lazy Flora was born.

Eighteen months after Lazy Flora launched and Claire quickly realized that she needed to expand some operational areas of her business so that it could continue to be successful. In order to continue with the expansion she realized that she would need to do some business fundraising.

Beginning the fundraising process proved itself to be challenging. Claire continued to move forward with determination and a strong business mindset.

Recently with the COVID-19 pandemic Lazy Flora experienced more challenges. These challenges were unlike most chanlleges that businesses experienced. Lazy Flora experienced an increase in business of about 500% more traffic. This again lead Claire to use business mindset strategies in order to meet the supply and demand that she was experiencing.

Come check out the latest episode to hear what lessons and strategies Claire has used to scale her business.

Business Growth And Innovation w/ Gianne Doherty

On today’s episode of The Savvy Business Show, we have another very special guest. Gianne Doherty and Jay Weeks founded Organic Bath Co. a skincare line that uses clean ingredients to nourish your skin.  They also founded the Well Summit, which is an event dedicated to helping you live your healthiest and most fulfilling life. This power couple knows how to innovate and get things done.

And today – we take a dive into how they’ve manage to pivot their business and continue to show up as supportive pillars of the community

Let’s Dive in…

Gianne talks with us today about how she was able to quickly pivot her business when COVID-19 pandemic hit the US. Gianne had already been thinking about launching a hand sanitizer for her company Organic Bath Co. This need in the community and the world pushed her to pivot so that she could provide a completely clean alternative.

Organic Bathe Co partnered with Bully Boy Distillers to create this new product. With the launch of the product they were able to develop a plan that allows them to ounce to ounce match your doncations to frontline workers.

Gianne Doherty Co-Founder of Organic Bath Co & WELL Summit

Gianne also discusses how she leans into and trusts the power of prayer to continue to move forward in uncertain times. Her motto is:

Learn to rest, not to quit

Many people during these uncertain times have become overwhelemed and feel like giving up. It’s during these times that we need to embrace the non-busyness for a change and let your mind go and create that space for you to maybe even see that thing that you’ve always not done could possibly be something that helps you work through the next million dollar idea. It’s all possible.

How I had my best February since being in business.

How I had my best February since being in business.

I can’t believe we’re already in March!? How are you doing? Do you still have that zest and drive to make this year your best year yet? I still do, and I want you to know I’m right here to help and support you to have the best year too!

And that’s precisely why I wanted to share the steps I took to have my best February since starting my coaching business in 2013! And it didn’t involve any new tech-savvy strategies or re-inventing the wheel in my business either. In fact, I did less with more ease the entire month long.

Here are the steps that made all the difference:

1. Outsourcing: I try to no longer do ANY of the “busy” work in my business. I hired a virtual assistant at the beginning of the year, and she’s doing all client on-boarding. The penny on this dropped massively for me when I attended a mastermind day with self-made millionaire Denise Duffield-Thomas last year. Women are terrible at asking for help, and that holds us back in business because we’re spending time on work that is not our zone of genius or keeps us from focusing on the revenue-driving activities in our business. Hiring people to help me with all these ad-hoc activities allowed me to focus my energy on reaching out to new and serving existing clients in an authentic way. As you may have noticed, I’m also undergoing a little bit of a transition over here to working only with people who want to grow their business and side-hustlers starting out or transitioning to full-time entrepreneurs, either in my private practice or through my mastermind programs.  This means the copy on my site needs to be adjusted and instead of wrestling with it for hours – I’ve outsourced it to my favorite copywriter. Other things that are on the list to outsource over the next few months: website optimization and updating, creative designs for website/social media.

2 . Working on my mindset. One of my mastermind buddies’ favorite saying is: “mindset work is the work.” And I have to say I agree with her. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve employed a few new strategies to overcome all fears, self-doubt and pretty much any thought or feeling that’s not serving me and what I want to accomplish in my business or life this year. There are millions of mindset tricks but here are the ones that I’m actively practicing:

a) Morning and evening gratitude and journal practice – I write out what I’m thankful for and allow some time to ponder on it along with anything that I’d like to release.
b) Meditate – I do 10 minutes of meditation in the morning to center me for the day.
c) Exercise regularly – I’ve also started doing a few new classes to spruce things up
d) A conscious effort to drink more water and eat healthier meals.
e) Releasing all things, stories, and people that don’t make me feel great. What that looks like in practice: I limit scrolling time on social media, I don’t read horrible news stories – yes, I stay informed but I don’t need to read 5 articles about the same sh8tty thing. I only hang with close friends who are near and dear and doesn’t suck energy. (note this doesn’t mean I don’t allow my friends or myself to vent or talk about the harder things in life)

IMG_1042 (1)

My office space: I’ve added a few things that inspire me here like the fresh flowers, sage and salt lamp.

3. Slowing the F Down!
If you know me you’ll know that I normally work at the speed of light and I’m going a million miles a minute, while this is great for implementing new programs and moving into action fast, it soooo doesn’t allow for being and working with more intention (read working hard and stupid). Always rushing things out means I don’t work smart in the long run. So I’ve taken some major chill pills (hence all the meditation work) so I can work and implement strategies that will reap more benefits and higher revenue long term.

4. Getting myself in the room with other successful business owners

I saved this one for last because it was the MOST important shift and contributing factor to having the best February since being in business for myself. I attended a mastermind intensive day with my business coach (another one of the best things I ever did for my business) in New York City at the beginning of the month, and it was the best thing ever, for two reasons:
a) I got to be in the room with multiple six and seven figure entrepreneurs; our work together lead to massive shifts for all of us. It heavily shifted the way I approach my business and how I now show up and work on growing it.
b) It was further proof that my mastermind programs are so essential and needed to help other entrepreneurs grow and thrive in their business! In fact, the day made such an impression on me that I decided to create one for the serious business peeps here in Boston too! Join me Friday, April 27th for a VIP Mastermind Day  – give yourself a day of space and deep connection to focus working ON your business vs. in it. Be in the room with an intimate group of spectacular businesswomen and step into your million-dollar business mindset (only ten spots available). Click here to join us.

And that was it. Simple, I know but so effective!

Now I’d love to hear from you!?

Have you recently outsourced a few projects in your business? What did you outsource first?

And which one of these tips was most helpful and will you employ first?

The Art Of Taking Breaks

I’m currently in sunny South Africa, taking it slow. Every time before we leave for this extended break (this year we’re here for three weeks) I always have a mini-freakout about taking all this time off. And every year, I’m surprised at just how “productive” this time is. No, I’m not sitting here coaching, writing blogs, or doing much, but the productivity comes from the not doing, and non-business. It comes from creative doodling, ideas are flowing non-stop, and because I’m allowing them to flourish and not act immediately, they keep evolving and getting better. It’s Ah-mazing!

Before I left, I spent quite a bit of time working with my business coach on all my (lofty) goals for 2018. After that, we did a deep dive on how I’d let go of the “guilt” I was feeling for not working 24/7 and the fear I had of missing out (yep, I deal with and practice what I preach every day too!). Allowing myself to create the space to be creative, think, digest, and mentally prepare myself to support all my mastermind, business, executive, and career coaching clients on a higher level in 2018. (Oh, and of course my new VA too! – more on that later.)

I’m determined to bring you the very best coaching services in 2018 and can’t wait to share more with you (I’ve included a few events for you below). BUT in the meanwhile, I did a little Facebook Live video (almost 400 people have already watched it) discussing this topic in more depth and giving some constructive tips to help you create guilt-free downtime and self-care rituals to expand your business in 2018!

This will be my last email until after Xmas, so I’d like to wish you a very happy festive season and thank you again for choosing me as your coach, it truly is such an honor to have you as part of our community.

Five Strategies To Grow Your Business Faster!

Let’s dive right into the five strategies to help you grow your business faster!

When it comes to your business:
  1. What is it that you want to achieve? How will you grow? A plan and a vision is important.
  2. You want to make sure that you stay consistent. Show up every single day and take a couple of steps towards that goal that you have for your business.
  3. Treat your business like it’s a marathon and not a sprint. So make sure that whatever steps you are taking in your business, you can continue to take without burning yourself out. You also want to leave enough time for self-care, and leave yourself enough downtime to rejuvenate your creative spirit.
  4. Collaborate with other people to help you grow your business even faster. Find some people that are either in your industry, but doing something slightly different, or in other industries that have the same audience as you have. You’ll see this a lot with internet business owners who cross-promote each other’s packages all the time. Find someone that you can work with and collaborate with so that you can both have a mutually beneficial relationship, but also benefit both of your audiences.
  5. Get some help. Don’t be shy of hiring a coach or a consultant, joining a mastermind, and also outsourcing any and all of the projects that you no longer find enjoyment in.

It’s important for you to stay patient. Remember that anything worthwhile and successful doesn’t just happen overnight. It does take time. It does take patience, and it’s definitely going to take all of the five tips that I shared with you today.

Looking for more support and accountability?

The Art of Saying No

“No,” – How do you say it in your business and to others? The first thing I tell my clients to do before they implement this is to get clear on what it is that you want in your life, your business, and your career.

When you know what it is that you want, it becomes easier to realize when you’re saying yes to things that are not serving you. And will help you to figure out what you should say no to and what you can say yes too.

A lot of us have a problem saying no to people because we don’t know how to do it. The other important thing that you have to start to practice how to say no to people. I’m going to teach you this quick, little tip that will help you to say no the next time someone asks you to do something that’s out of line with what is that you want to accomplish.

Are you ready?

The simple, little word is just simply, “No, thank you.”

Start practicing this with little things that you can say not to, because it is really hard if you’ve always been a peoples-pleaser and always said “yes” to everything, to all of a sudden start to lay down those boundaries for people.

How to start implementing “No Thank You.”

Start small. Next time someone offers you a coffee, and you don’t want a coffee, just say, “No, thank you;” or anything simple like that. Then you can slowly build up your resistance to saying no to bigger things.

And what you will find when you start saying no to people is that you actually create a whole bunch of space for things that you do want in your life. I guarantee that if you practice this magic-little-no-thank-you line enough, you are going to be a happier, more fulfilled and more relaxed person.
Now I’d love to hear from you: How do you get over the guilt of saying no to people? If you have recently started saying no or also have had an “Ah-ha” saying no to people, please remember to tell us about in the comments below, because we’d love to hear from you.

Also, remember to signup for my newsletter where I share little extra tips that I don’t share anywhere else. As always, please share this video with two to three people who could really do with saying no more in their life. Thank you for watching, and I’ll catch you again next time.

The right time to quit your job and start your business!

Today we’re going to be discussing when the right time is to quit your job and start growing your business.

Figuring out when to leave a job is precisely what clients come to me for. To answer this question, we have to delve a little deeper into you and who you are, because it’s a unique situation and it’s different for everybody.

Here are my guidelines that I give my Ultimate Career Bootcamp and Private clients to help them pin down the perfect time to quit their jobs:
  1. You do want to make sure that you are financially secure. If you have a side business and you still have a day job, you want to make sure that your side business is doing reasonably well so that when you do quit your job, you can ramp up business pretty quickly. If you want to quit your job and start from scratch, you want to make sure that you have some savings in the bank to help you while you’re ramping up your business. If you’re not financially secure, you will do what I did, and you will have a little bit of a panic attack because finances might get too tight. And then you’ll be tempted to hop right back into whatever it is that you’re doing now and ultimately just end up being unhappy again.
  2. The next thing that you want to ask yourself is: What is my primary goal? If your long-term goal is that you want to be the owner of your company, then there’s no better time than now to quit your job. Remember that it can be daunting to take this leap of faith to start your own business. I totally appreciate and feel you if you’re in that situation right now. But you have to remember that every single minute that is spent in the corporate world is time that you’re not dedicating to growing your business. Ultimately, the longer you hold onto your corporate job, the longer it’s going to take for you to build and ramp up your business and be an entrepreneur.

The answer to the question, “When is the right time for me to quit my job?” is: Right now.

I had this little struggle within myself because I was trying to flip my Pilates business and move more into my coaching business. It was hard for me to let go of my Pilates classes and there was some ego involved. There was also a little bit of “Oh my word, am I going to be able to make bank with my business?”

But here’s ultimately what the deciding factor was for me:

I realized that every single hour that I was spending in my Pilates business was revenue lost in growing my coaching business. You want to make sure that you start to think about it this way.

Think about all the time that you’re going to free up when you no longer have to do your day job, and you can solely focus on growing the thing that you’re passionate about. That was ultimately what helped me to clean out my schedule, focus on my coaching business, and build that.

Now I am so happy that I did that because I’ve exponentially grown my coaching business, and I am so much more excited and happy about where I am at in my career.

Holiday Season Survival Kit

Four easy tips to stay grounded, built trust and grow your network!

When an old Pilates connection recently reached out to ask if I’d lead their women’s leadership group through a hands-on workshop, I was thrilled at the opportunity! I got to coach the team through an array or topics like how to step up and own their role as leader and how to overcome the challenges that are keeping them from leaning in harder.

Listening to the hurdles that all of us face on a daily basis got me thinking just how hectic our lives are and how hard we are on ourselves. During the holidays it all just get crazier.

Here are four easy tips to survive the holidays (and life):

  1. Breath (Four breath pattern)relax in under 30 seconds
A quick few rounds of the four breath pattern can instantly calm and ground you.
How it works: Take a breath in for four counts, hold it for four, breath out for four, hold it for four, and repeat a few times.
I love this one because we don’t always have a chance to meditate or go to the gym. This can be a quick and easy SOS whenever you need it.
  2. Reflectset yourself up for success in 2017
Take five to ten minutes to take stock of your year: What went well in your career and business this year? What did you accomplish? What are you most proud of? We’re always looking ahead and reaching for the next thing, so it’s easy to forget how much you’ve done and how far you’ve come. Give yourself a big fat high five for your journey!
  3. Ask for helpanother way to lean in
We are not islands, and we can’t do it all alone. We often think that asking for help is a complete taboo because others will believe that we’re weak or worse: stupid. In the workshop yesterday, we discovered the contrary. Asking for help can be a great opportunity to build trust and rapport, plus it strengthens the connection with your team and peers. Think about how awesome you feel when people ask for your help! It’s a win-win situation: you get to learn, grow and feel supported, and your colleagues/friends/family get to feel good about helping and sharing their knowledge.
  4. Embrace the seasonget out and network
Everyone’s in the holiday cheer, so now is a great time to get out there and make new connections. Growing your network now will help you prosper and flourish in 2017.

Whatever you do: be sure to enjoy, embrace and fah-la-la-la-laa-la-la-la-lahhhh! No seriously, though, have fun this season!

With lots of love and warm wishes – your business and career coach,
x Hanneke
